Liposuction

Procedure: Liposuction
Indication: Removal of localised collections of diet-resistant fat. Areas include chin, back, breasts, arms, abdomen, buttocks, hips, waist and thighs
Duration: Variable, depending on areas addressed
Associated procedures: Abdominoplasty, mommy-makeover, mastopexy, breast reduction, thigh lift, and brachioplasty
Anaesthesia: General anaesthesia or small areas under local anaesthesia and sedation
Incision: Minimal. 5mm incisions that usually heal without significant scarring
Length of hospital stay: Day case to 24 hours (depending on volume of liposuction)
Recovery: Bruising and pain for the first two weeks. Firmness may persist for six weeks. Generally, return to work at one week and exercise at three weeks.

Liposuction uses a suction device to remove localised unwanted fat deposits. A mechanical vibrating hand piece or ultrasound energy can be added to make the removal of fat more efficient. Developed in the late 1970’s, it has been proven to be safe in well-trained hands. The fat that is removed can be processed and injected back into the body.

It is not a solution for weight loss, but a tool, when used in conjunction with lifestyle modifications, to improve body contour. Generally, best results occur in patients at, or near ideal body weight, looking to remove a particularly diet resistant area of fat. Areas targeted include the face, neck, breasts, axilla (armpits), arms, abdomen, buttocks, waistline, hips, inner and outer thighs and legs. Liposuction may be performed alone, or in conjunction with other surgical procedures. These include breast and body lifts, abdominoplasty, breast reductions and fat fills of face, breasts, hands and buttocks.

Dr. Zinn’s assessment begins with a comprehensive consultation, understanding your goals, and examining areas of concern. Even, the liposuction cost in Melbourne offered by this surgeon is also less. Considering this, a plan is formulated that will consider:

  • Age
  • General medical condition
  • Ideal body weight and weight fluctuations
  • Lifestyle modifications
  • Skin quality and excess thereof
  • Priority areas

All questions are answered and the procedure, it’s risks, complications and preventative measures explained.

Dr. Zinn will perform the procedure under general anaesthesia, or occasionally conscious sedation and local anaesthesia. The length of the procedure depends on the planned extent of treatment and other procedures are to be performed. An overnight stay is required in large volume liposuction (approaching 5 litres). Compression garments are used for up to two months after the surgery. These help to reduce swelling, bruising, improve shape, minimize complications and hasten recovery. Scarring is minimal and scar management plans are encouraged to optimise recovery. Incisions are placed in natural creases and landmarks to ensure they are easily hidden.

Regular follow up appointments with Dr. Zinn helps to monitor healing and recovery. Results can be expected at six months. It is rare, but touch-up procedures to improve contour and symmetry are performed at six months, and if small, may be done under local anaethesia.

Through this procedure, he aims to give patients a desirable shape, even contour and good symmetry with the least possible downtime and complications. Dr. Zinn looks forward to answering any questions you may have. You can check his site to know about the liposuction cost in Melbourne also.
