Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery is a surgical procedure. Its role is to reduce signs of ageing in the periorbital region (area around the eyes).

A blepharoplasty targets extra skin, fat and muscle of the upper and lower eyelids. By removing these components, the area around the eye is rejuvenated. Current trends of rejuvenation in this area are to maintain greater volume and avoid age-related hollowing. The demand for eyelid surgery in Melbourne is growing among patients.

Added benefits of eyelid surgery include improving the visual fields by removing eyelid ‘hooding’. Symmetry and shape can also be improved, and drooping eyelids (also known as ptosis) can be repaired.

Surgical Techniques:

  • Upper, lower or both eyelids may be addressed with skin, muscle and fat removal or repositioning
  • Injections of filler or fat
  • Botulin toxin to the brow and crow’s feet
  • Chemical peels
  • Ptosis or ‘lazy eye’ correction

Depending on the complexity of the procedure and patient preference, the procedure can be performed under local anaesthetic and sedation or general anaesthetic. This is usually performed as a day procedure. Dr. Zinn, provides the treatment of Blepharoplasty in Melbourne along with expert post-operative care of pain and swelling as well as scar management. Recovery is rapid and downtime minimal, averaging around one week.
